For Project 2, I plan to research the Askew Student Life Center’s gaming community on campus and how gaming affects its members socially. Everyone at the ASLC all shares a similar interest of enjoying video games, and that is why they attend. I want to research how people feel about gaming at the ASLC and if they believe that gaming should be as common as throwing a ball around outside. My initial research has led me to believe that gaming is a genre of sports. Playing a competitive video game should be on the same level as playing football outside. I will ask members questions on if they believe video games should be considered sports or are they just an action performed with technology. It could be easily argued that a competitive video game is classified as a sport. Popular competitive video games such as the title League of Legends, has a large community of competitive gamers. They have teams that compete against each other to win the game, just like a traditional sport. I want to ask members of the ASLC who play video games competitively and those who play it casually, and see what there thoughts are on the growing genre of video gaming as a sport. I want to learn how these people feel to be apart of the FSU gaming community and if they would like to see it grow from where it is right now. ASLC gaming club meets every Wednesday at 6 p.m. so that will allow me to ask questions to the fellow members.
